NYFW A/W 2015/16 - Luxe Minimalism and Graphics Logos

Fashion Week is my favourite time of the year; when social media is off the roof with all the frow hashtags, flashing street style and fresh new trends. Besides tanking up on coffee and wearing the best of the best, the drama and spontaneity of work can be totally taxing as well as exhilarating.

We do always try and handpick our favourite collections and talk about the details. More often than not they are the ones that lead the trends of the upcoming seasons.
So far The Row & Marc by Marc Jacobs are our favourites from the AW 2015/16 version.

The Row

Even if I keep aside the fact that I have followed Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen’s work for a while now, this collection has beaten my obsession hollow.

It was a very New Yorker moment right out of the books of fashion and movies. I could literally see the twins gliding through Park Avenue wearing slip-ons and straight tailored leather coats.

The unfettered pant-suits have probably made The Row customer a corporate junkie overnight. Oversize shapes and the fuss free silhouette was mixed to the right degree of seriousness. And it was actually at the corner of where comfort met elegance next to a soft duffle bag placed very strategically. I could just not get enough of how comfortable the entire runway looked in this universe of minimalism. Knotted leather belts over seductive silk robes and flared trousers were the right way to be more superfine. I was excited knowing that this woman is going to town looking luxe chic and slightly more distinguished than the rest of the crowd. Super sharp tailoring and a refined colour palette is just what I was looking for on this runway.

Marc by Marc Jacobs

Unique and Fresh; that’s what the Marc by Marc Jacobs collections have seemingly become synonymous with customary seasonal persistence.

The presentation for Fall 2015 was a perfectly well balanced mix of much-needed artistic singularity and the pragmatic subtleties that are now the norm for ready to wear. The quirks that were the colourful graphics, slogans and tropical florals placed with the tailored basics like the black shirts, denims, coats, etc. accounted for this balance. The leitmotif of the show was an artsy rebel wherein the messy hair was topped by berets, black in everything interspersed with vivid colours, prints and patterns. There was an optimal restraint which contextualised in the ingenuity that manifested in silhouette like the maxis, skirts- long and others blown up like a tutu with a lace underlining- and playful prints that were contained as to give requisite limelight to all that was quintessential and modest. In the midst of the uniform spectacle that fashion weeks are this one definitely manages to stand-out and at the same time pertain to the model code of commercial viability.

The ‘Purest’ Trends for A/W 2015 - Pure London 2015

I am a little late on this one, but there is no way I am skipping it.

When likeminded style and design activists come together under one roof it concludes to be the perfect event. Yes it is where designers and buyers do business but it is also where new visionaries, innovators and creatives of the fashion world look for opportunity. It is just the right place for new finds, emerging new trends and slightly offbeat style.

With rows and rows of impeccable clothing, creative spaces and interesting visual merchandise were just the right touch. Rustic details, vintage furniture and complete store models were built on the floor. Walls were creatively done up whether they were decorated with frames, made of bricks or were just the old school wooden. Stunning and individualistic details were as diverse as the language barriers. From Spain to Italy, Germany to Portugal, all of Europe played part at the Pure London 2015 show.

The most trending details for A/W 15 were seeming to be straight lines, over size shapes and subdued colour palettes. Not that I didn't get enough of those last year, but this year they are modified to cleaner, seriously well tailored and a tad sporty. Blankets have taken a new shape in the form of capes and cape jackets. Denim coats, check suits and leather trenches were the mini trends which will add ounces of chic to your wardrobe next season. Sleeveless long coats have taken a surprising new turn whilst mesh pants and tattered textures choose a more expensive look.

Emmy Design from Sweden are creators of tailor made vintage clothing, taking us right into the past we have always wanted to visit. Feminine flare jumpsuits, the 70’s folded norma jeans, 40’s work pants and the girl swirly coats from the 50’s was the boudoir this brand had to offer.

Germany was all about serious felts and thick fleeces beautifully tailored into shapes that only offered minimalism. Not to stop at this but Faux Fur was everywhere. So whether you live in the Alps or not this is something that needs to be paraded by the fashion forward one way or another. From gloves to hats and footwear to swimwear everything was under one roof making it seemingly impossible to look at everything at Pure.

Food for thought; it is always refreshing to discover emerging new talent and platforms like these makes it possible to touch and feel the trend right at its source. And I am on the constant look out for just this kind of newness to rip me out off my mundane life.

When you know you’re on the top and you have to ski down the mountain, wanderlust and adrenaline mix in your blood and take you far far away.

But thats not all…

Where wooden barns are converted into luxurious chalets, toasty fireplaces are automatic and hot tubs are on the snow covered slopes; it all makes a perfect base for the ultimate ski experience. Woollen throws and ox fur blankets are accessories for your furniture and sheep skin slip ons wait for you at home in Courchevel.

Now this is probably my favourite season after summer (tsk tsk) and on a more serious note hitting the slopes in style is important.

Soaringly low temperatures call for some concentrated fashion decoding and before I jet set for a ski holiday I do always look at my wardrobe for winter baubles.

While you shoop shoop shoop down the valley a tad girly and a little bit snowboard boyish sums up to some great fashion inspiration. Cozy warm sweaters and fitted down jackets are just not enough. This white winter wonderland calls for some woolly blankets wrapped up in different styles with furry wellies, matching fleece lined gloves and sherpa hats. Sheep skin boots and quilted Moncler parkas are part of the permanent look. Baubles like woollen scarves, white ski goggles and pastel ear muffs make the look a ‘complete’ winner. And of course, while you're there woollen throws and ox fur blankets serve as the perfect accessories for your furniture.

Here’s a preview of super cut ski jumpers, sunglasses and hats on the catwalk you should definitely celebrate with in the Alps.
